The third “Plums for Trash” plogging event took place in Varna

Initiated by the international corporation KYB as part of the year-long “Plums for Trash” cycle, Varna hosted another environmental walk combining outdoor activity with community cleanup. The third plogging event of autumn 2025 took place on the grounds of the Early Christian monastery in the Djanavara area — one of Varna’s most significant archaeological sites, located in Borovets Park near the Asparuhovo district.

The location was chosen deliberately: KYB consistently supports urban and natural areas that require careful protection. The ruins of the 5th–7th century basilica are often affected by litter, even though their preservation plays an important role in shaping Varna’s cultural and tourist appeal.

Participants collected 85 kg of waste from the surrounding area and the green zones around the monastery complex. As in previous events, all collected waste will be sorted and recycled, with the plastic later used to create a new urban art installation.

This third plogging event continued the work done by dedicated volunteers along the previous routes — in the Golden Sands Nature Park and on the coastal stretch from Galata to Pasha Dere. Since the launch of the “Plums for Trash” initiative, volunteers have collected more than 800 kg of waste.

“With every new event, it becomes increasingly clear how meaningful the impact of united local efforts can be. For KYB, as a corporation of responsible developers, organizing such initiatives is essential. It allows our work in improving the urban environment to become part of the public good,” said KYB founder Oleg Nevzorov.

Alongside the sense of accomplishment, participants also receive a symbolic “plum” patch — for each event they join and for every invited friend. At the end of the 12-month cycle, the most active volunteer will receive a special prize from KYB..

The next plogging event is coming soon. Follow the updates on KYB’s website and social media to make sure you don’t miss the chance to collect your “Plums for trash” — just like in a warm Bulgarian fairy tale!
